Why did you choose Toby?

I started working for Toby Carvery 2 years ago, it was just by chance that I heard about a job vacancy in the kitchen. The restaurant is a 5-minute walk from my house and my children’s school, I originally chose to work there for the convenience I never thought it would turn into such an amazing job!

I started out in the kitchen as a kitchen porter but after 6 months my manager decided to set me a challenge and asked me to begin working with the Front of House team. I was a waitress for 4 months before my manager challenged me again and asked if I would like to train to become a duty manager, I jumped at the chance and said yes!

What do you love most about your role?

The thing I love most about my job?? Well there’s more than one!

Working in such a fast-paced environment can be difficult at times, so I try and make every day fun for my team members because if they are having fun the guests will be too. Motivating our team and making sure they enjoy coming to work is something I find really satisfying.

I also love working with our guests and I love that every day is different, it really keeps me on my toes.

Finally, I love working with my fantastic manager and outstanding team, our Toby Carvery wouldn’t be the same without them!

Why did you choose Toby?

When I moved into a new area I came to my local Toby Carvery to eat as it was a brand I recognised. After to speaking to the friendly team members who let me know they had a vacancy I was eager to apply and thrilled when I got the job!

My training was hands on and practical which really suited my learning style. Over time, I was trained in all the areas of the kitchen and progressed stage by stage. Developing my skills was easy as I learnt new skills through a variety of interactive courses online that I could complete at a time that suited me. There’s so much opportunity to learn and develop, I’ve been able to expand my knowledge both across the kitchen and Front of House and I now aim to progress into a management position.

With the support of my manager, the team at our Retail Support Centre and all our online training resources I know that I will be able to achieve this goal!

What do you love most about your role?

There are many reasons to love this job, but the main reason is because it’s so rewarding. It’s challenging working in a busy restaurant but there’s no other feeling like finishing a shift knowing that you coped with the demand and given your guests a great experience.

Why did you choose Toby?

The main reason why I wanted to start working in Toby is because of the great visions and values that the brand has. The “home of the roast” image and strong standards across the whole of Toby is something that is so important to me. The warm atmosphere I experienced visiting Toby restaurants when I was a child was something that I wanted to continue to create in my career.

I actually started working for Harvester which is owned by the same company as Toby, 5 years ago where I joined as a waitress. Just after my 18th birthday I was given the opportunity to start my management training. After 6 months of working with my manager and completing courses I was promoted to Assistant Manager. I quickly started looking for my next challenge and as I love the Toby Carvery brand I decided that it would be a great step in my career to move over to the brand and gain more experience in a new environment in order to develop myself further.

I have now been working for Toby Carvery for 2 years and since then I have become a Deputy Manager. Not only do I get to work in a fast paced and friendly environment with my team, I also get to support the training of new Assistant Managers, Kitchen Managers and General Managers from across the company. I’ve also started working towards becoming a General Manager of my very own Toby Carvery!

What do you love most about your role?

Working for Toby Carvery is so rewarding, and I am always learning something new. The fast-paced restaurant constantly keeps you on your toes and it is so rewarding at the end of the shift when you’ve smashed your sales targets!

I also love giving our guests the best possible experiences they can have when visiting us. There is nothing better than creating memories for those people who walk through the doors and seeing them leave happy has got to be the best thing about this job.
